100 Miles and Running or16 Weeks and Counting.

We had another ultrasound this past Friday and both twins are doing great. They are measuring the same size and had equal volumes of fluid- the two things we are watching to make sure both stay healthy for the duration of the pregnancy. With identicals, we are at risk for something called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome, where one twin ends up getting more nutrients than the other so I have to be constantly monitored. So far so good, though.

The doctor also confirmed that they are indeed boys, and we left his office with some keepsake photos of their junk.  Now it’s all about thinking of names. Oh and returning all the girl clothes I bought before we knew…

Lately I’ve continued being super tired, but Sunday I had a great day! I managed to make it to the gym (for the second day in a row) and go for like an hour long walk. However, I did pass out at an Oscar party later that night. Still, as far as my days have been going as of late - it was totally gold medal.

My poker playing has been sporadic. I’ve gotten busy with work and that of course takes precedence, even though it still pays less at this point (heh.) Although, my poker account is down about $20 right now. I’ve come in first and second in about three tournaments, but I’ve also come in fifth (top three paid) in a lot more. Since I started playing for real cash, the competition is definitely more intense and I’ve had a few bad beats, but such is life at the poker table.

Misappropriating quotes to lesser situations.

There’s an old John Lennon song, titled after a quote originally coined by one Yoko Ono, stating that “woman is the ni—— of the world.”

It does seem like in every group, there’s always a subset within said group that’s treated like the ass-end. In high school it’s the popular kids vs. the nerds, or maybe it’s the jocks vs. the nerds, I can’t remember. Anyway, the nerds are the shit end of that situation. For instance.

So I’ve noticed this continues to be true for people who are pregnant. There’s a clear bias against early pregnancy people by both mid/ late pregnancy people, and non-pregnant people alike.  Case in point: Today I went to my first ever pre-natal class. The teacher went around the room asking how far along everyone was. She saved me for last, mentioning that everyone was pretty progressed in their pregnancy, some people even just a few days out from their due dates, before asking, “And you?” Clearly giving me this look like she doubted I was even pregnant and all, maybe just a psycho FIGHT CLUB type situation person who’s like a specialty group tourist.

I told her I was about 14 weeks along and she proceeded to go into some sort of speech about how MY needs as a “first trimester person” (even though I think at 14, I am second trimester, thank you very much - NOT THAT IT SHOULD MATTER, EVERYONE IS EQUAL) were very different from everyone else’s. She did not, however, mention in what way. So that was curious. Nonetheless, because I’ve been so sick and lazy, the class was plenty challenging and I left feeling energized and all around GOOD. Especially after getting a delicious chicken salad sandwich and chocolate walnut brownie at the little cafe next door afterwards. Pregnant people, even those in the early stages, need to eat!

Bottom line: Maybe it’s human nature to unite against the “other,” or maybe most people are just bitches.

Erm. Uhkay.

So today we had our super-duper high resolution ultrasound and as it turns out, we are having identical twins. Most likely BOYS, (per the ultrasound chick and her keen eye for penis.) I am in shock because I truly believed (for no reason whatsoever,) that we were for sure having fraternal twins in the form of one boy and one girl.

Instead, it looks like we’re more in a DEAD RINGERS sort of situation:

…which is the movie that made my husband fearful of identical twins to begin with. The only thing DEAD RINGERS ever made me fearful was the idea of a world in which there are two Jeremy Irons.

Needless to say, we are totally psyched and this continues to be serious trip each step of the way- which honestly, I kinda love.

On your marks, get set, PANIC! Or, Pregnancy Anxiety Dreams.

Last night I couldn’t sleep because I was freaked out about having kids. When I thankfully drifted off, I was met by some of the most disturbing, violent dreams ever.

Let’s start with one of the twins being consumed by evil, and trying to kill me. See below:

image

Then I woke up because I had to pee. Obviously. Such a f*&^ing cliche.

Next dream was that my clinically psycho in real life friend, came back to LA in dream life, to stalk me and my babies and my Zero dog. Again, see below:

Then I woke up because I had to pee. Obviously. Such a f*&^ing cliche - Take Two.

Back to sleep, and again into hell. This time back to a former work place of epically hellish proportions called AGENCY THAT SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS where the filing still had to be done and my boss was still a complete nutjob. I’m not sure if this still from THE PLAYER exactly captures the sentiment of this particular nightmare, but it definitely captures my mood post many meetings, so I figured I would include it anyway.

On and on it went until it was time to get up, upon which I was greeted by dog puke. Maybe Zero is pregnant too…

Finally. The second trimester has arrived.

And, most importantly, I can eat cookies again. While cookies may not be the nutrient-dense food of choice for expectant mothers recommended by nutritionists, for my own state of mind, it was important that my taste for sweets returned. It did today, with a vengeance. I guess now I will finally start gaining weight! (Note: this is the only time in my life I will ever hope to gain weight, of that I am fairly certain.)

The last few weeks I’ve been so sick, I haven’t even been able to play poker. I finally played in a few tournaments last night - but when my aces got cracked by someone calling with jack nine, TWICE, I gave up.  I think I need to start playing in tournaments with higher buy ins where people play less crap. I know I’ve probably said this before, but really - it’s time!

Speaking of buying in, today I ordered our cribs, our first major baby-centric purchase. I’ve never in my life bought anything from Walmart, and I am ashamed to admit that today I did. But they had incredible “roll-back” prices on the cribs I’ve been eyeing and I couldn’t help it. I know, I’m a dirty capitalist who hates humanity and supports poor business practices all in the name of a good deal - but I have gotten paid in almost two years, okay? I need a deal!

Btw, here are pictures of my babies, aged 12 weeks, 5 days:

This is Baby “A” - he/ she can be seen here chillin’. Not shown in this snapshot: feet propped up on the wall of its sac.

This one here is Baby “B,” seen here waving. Or maybe it’s “waving.”
